WHEATON, IL. — The Carthage men's tennis team grabbed a 5-4 victory over Wheaton College on the road this Thursday. Today's win improves the Firebird's overall record to 7-5 and their conference record to 4-1.

Andre Antreassian and John Nykyforuk opened up doubles play with an 8-3 win on court three, followed by an 8-6 dub on court one by Nicolas Welker and Matt Krzewinski. Carthage would go on to drop the remaining doubles court, but gain the 2-1 advantage heading into singles competition.

After dropping court five, Andre Antreassian would get singles action rolling for the Firebirds as he grabbed a 6-4, 6-1 win on court six. Courts three and one would fall for Carthage, but Cooper Ferruzzi would bounce back to win court four 6-4, 6-3. Nicolas Welker would close things out on court two with a 6-3, 6-3 victory, and Carthage would ultimately take the match 5-4.

"Big win for the Firebirds today," said Head Coach Brady Lindsley. " The entire team played extremely well for a hard-fought win."

Next Friday, April 23rd, Carthage hosts North Central College at the Smeds Tennis Center in Kenosha, Wisconsin, for what will be their second to last match before the conference tournament. The Firebirds are currently on a five-game winning streak.
