Firebirds Defeat Augustana 4-0 in Spring Opener

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's soccer team hosted Augustana on Sunday for their first official match of the spring, picking up a 4-0 victory over the Vikings at Art Keller Field.

"Today was a welcomed start to the season," said head coach Steve Domin. "Quietly, these guys brought the 400th win to Carthage in the recent era, combined, and I couldn't be more happy for them and Carthage. We have so many great sports teams here and this cemented Carthage's role as a soccer school."

Minutes into the match, Aidan Crowder found Mickey Reilly for a goal, before Reilly hit the back of the net once more just before the half to make it 2-0. Early in the second half, Reilly returned the favor to Crowder, assisting on a goal minutes into the second period to make it a 3-0 game.

"Our middles had wonderful days, sharing the ball and ball-winning," said Domin. "Mickey, Aidan and Mason backed up their accolades in coming to Carthage. Our back line held serve against an Augie team which got us against the run of play last year."

The freshman Reilly would go on to complete the hat trick moments later, helping the Firebirds secure a 4-0 victory paired with stellar goalkeeping from Christian Lekki and Nick Washelesky.

"There will be a lot more of this over the years. Renfro is playing like a superhero," said Domin. "It's a fun group, the entire program."

Carthage is scheduled to travel to Carroll next and take on the Pioneers in an exhibition on Tuesday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m.
