Carthage Bats Lead Firebirds to 10-7 Victory

KENOSHA, Wis. — A mid-game offensive surge helped guide the Carthage baseball team to a 10-7 win over Concordia Wisconsin on Tuesday afternoon at Augie Schmidt Field.

While the home team surrendered a run in the top of both the first and second innings, Carthage (6-5) would get one back to make it 2-1 at the end of the second. After Concordia Wisconsin (7-3) extended their lead to 5-1, the Firebirds responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth as Colton Klein, Ben Levicki, and Pierson Gibis each recorded RBI singles.

Carthage would take the lead in the following inning, as an RBI groundout from Bryce Prybylinski, RBI double from Levicki, and RBI single from Jake Cinelli set the score at 8-5. As the Falcons brought the game within one run, Prybylinski slapped a two-run home run over the left field wall to give the Firebirds a three-run advantage. The home team would seal the win after Jacob DeLabio closed out the game with back-to-back strikeouts.

Carthage returns to conference play next, as they're scheduled to travel to Elmhurst on Friday, April 2 for a noon doubleheader.

Head Coach Augie Schmidt IV

"It was a good game. We pitched a lot of young guys today, and for the most part, they threw it pretty well. Then DeLabio came in and did his thing to close it out. It feels like we're starting to hit more, like we think we should be. This was a good win against a good club."
