Firebirds Split Doubleheader at Carroll

WAUKEHSA, Wis. — After falling in game one 10-6 at Carroll, the Carthage baseball team came back in game two of the day with a 16-2 win on Monday at Frame Park.

After the Firebirds (5-5, 1-4 CCIW) grabbed an early lead in the first inning, Carroll (8-6, 2-4 CCIW) responded with four of their own to take a lead they would hold through the rest of the seven-inning game.

In game two, Carthage scored a quick two in the first inning, before adding four more in the next frame highlighted by three-straight hits from Bryce Prybylinski, Ben Levicki, and Jake Cinelli. While the home team responded with one to make it 6-1 after two innings, the Carthage offense remained hot, with a three-run home run in the fifth, and five more runs in the seventh.

The Firebirds return home for another weekday game tomorrow, March 29 when they host Concordia Wisconsin at 3 p.m. at Augie Schmidt Field.

Head Coach Augie Schmidt IV

"In the second game we hit the ball a little bit and got some pitching. In the first game we struggled on the hill, fell behind early, and played catch up the rest of the way. We're just not hitting on all cylinders and have some things to figure out. But I'm happy we got the split."

Quick Facts

  • Ben Lecicki went a combined 5-8 from the plate today, with a home run and six RBI.
  • Bryce Prybylinski was 5-8 as well across each game today, scoring four runs and batting in two.
  • With a pair of two-hit games today, freshman Jake cinelli collected six total hits in the Carroll series.
