Carthage Drops Series Opener With Carroll

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College baseball team began their three-game weekend series with Carroll on Friday, falling 12-6 in game one at Augie Schmidt Field.

After the visitors struck first with a home run in the third inning, the Firebirds (4-4, 0-3 CCIW) responded in the bottom of the inning with a sac fly by Cody Tostrud that scored Jake Cinelli to tie the game at one. While Carroll (7-5, 1-3) extended their lead in the fifth and seventh, Ben Levicki sent a ball over the center field wall for a grand slam for his first home run of the season in the eighth frame to make it 10-5. However, the Pioneers would add two more in the final inning to eventually win by six.

Carthage will look to bounce back in the series on Sunday, as they travel to Carroll for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
