Firebirds Fall at Home to Wheaton

KENOSHA, Wis. — The visitors offense struck first and Carthage was unable to bounce back, as the Firebirds fell to Wheaton 10-5 on Wednesday afternoon at Augie Schmidt Field.

The Thunder (5-4, 3-0 CCIW) took an early 7-0 advantage within the first three innings of play, before Carthage (4-3, 0-2 CCIW) hit the scoring column in the bottom of the third. In the following inning, Cody Tosturd belted a two-run home run to make it 7-3, but the Firebirds were unable to catch up to Wheaton, scoring two more in the eighth before eventually falling by five.

The Firebirds will hit the road and continue their conference schedule this weekend, as they travel to Carroll for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 27 beginning at 1 p.m.

Head Coach Augie Schmidt IV

"The first inning did us in, we're just not playing very well. We made a lot of mistakes and did a lot of things we shouldn't be doing as a college team. We can't spot a good team six runs and expect to come back and win."
