Carthage Completes Road Sweep at Fontbonne

ST. LOUIS — The Carthage College baseball team picked up their first series sweep of the new season, defeating Fontbonne 14-3 on Sunday in eight innings at Shaw Park.

In the top of the third inning, Colton Klein got the offense going with a home run to left field. After Johnny Belskis drove in a run with a single to right field, he and Ben Levicki would cross home plate on a double by Jake Cinelli, with Matt Pratscher capping off a five-run inning on an RBI single during the next at bat.

Adding a run in the top of the fourth, the Firebirds (4-2) would plate three more in the fifth to make it a 9-1 game. While Fontbonne (6-7) would score in the bottom of the sixth and eighth, a grand slam from Bryce Prybylinski helped keep the game out of reach, as the Carthage pitching performances from Keith Kutzler and Dante Guarascio proved too much for the home team.

Up next, the Firebirds are scheduled to return home and host Wheaton College on Wednesday, March 24 at 5 p.m.
