Game Recap: #6 Men's Volleyball |

Carthage Stays Perfect on the Season with 3-0 Win over North Park

KENOSHA, WIS. — The No. 3 Carthage College men's volleyball team collected their sixth home victory this season beating North Park 3-0 on Wednesday night in the Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) action at Tarble Arena. 

Carthage (10-0, 6-0 CCIW) went up 6-3 to start the match with a kill from Gene McNulty and an ace from Matt Slivinski. An 11-3 run for the Firebirds made the score 17-6 over North Park (5-4, 2-3 CCIW). A kill from Parker Connolly extended the margin to 11 at 19-8. Though the Vikings cut the margin to seven, Carthage took a one-set lead 25-17. 

The Firebirds continued the momentum in the second as a Vikings attack error gave the home team an 8-2 advantage. Carthage closed out the set with a 17-5 run to win 25-7. 

A block by Connolly put the Firebirds up 7-3 in the third. Later in the set, a kill from Slivinski made it 16-7. Though North Park got within eight, Carthage won the third set 25-14 for the straight-set victory. 

Next up, the Firebirds are on the road taking on Augustana (Ill.) on Saturday, March 13 at 2 p.m.

  • Leading Carthage in kills was Bryce Thomas with 10 and a hitting percentage of .714. 
  • Zach Bulthuis had a match-high eight total blocks tying his career-best while the Carthage defense had 14 total.  
  • The Firebirds hit .381 and .416 in sets two and three respectively finishing with a hitting percentage of .362 marking the seventh game this season Carthage hit over .350.
