No. 9 Carthage Improves to 3-0 with Win over Concordia-Wisconsin

KENOSHA, Wis.  — The No. 9 Carthage College men's volleyball team picked another home victory on Tuesday night, defeating Concordia (Wis.) 3-0 in non-conference action at Tarble Arena.

Carthage (3-0) started the match up 4-3 lead with a kill from Parker Connolly. The home team then put together an 11-4 run to go up 15-7 over the Falcons. Concordia (Wis.) (0-1) battled back to cut the deficit to six until three straight kills from Bryce Thomas, Connolly, and Matt Slivinski made it 19-10. Carthage went on to win the set 25-13.

The home team continued the momentum in the second leading 7-4 early on. Concordia (Wis.) narrowed the gap to two until back-to-back kills from Slivinski made it 13-8. The Falcons continued to keep close with Carthage but a kill and block from Zach Bulthuis extended the margin to 21-14. The home team took the set with two kills from Daniel Dyner and Slivinski 25-17.

Concordia (Wis.) began the third with a 5-2 advantage until Carthage chipped away at the lead and took control of the set 16-15 with a kill from Bulthuis. Carthage ended the third set with a 9-4 run for a 25-19 match victory.

Next up, Carthage remains at home playing Augustana (Ill.) scheduled for February 17, at 7 p.m.

Head Coach JW Kieckhefer

"Man, it is fun to play in Tarble! We have a pretty special group of athletes and Gene has done a fantastic job of getting the right guys involved offensively. Our middles Zach and Parker have been really efficient this year and it is impressive to watch them take over a match.

I am really excited to get some days off from matches and compete in the gym. We have a long way to go with the defense and blocking, but this group fights hard! The fight is what matters!"
