Game Recap: #6 Men's Volleyball |

No. 9 Carthage Sinks Vikings in Straight Sets

KENOSHA, Wis.  — The No. 9 Carthage College men's volleyball started the Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) play Wednesday night with a 3-0 win against Augustana (Ill.) at Tarble Arena.

Carthage (4-0, 1-0 CCIW) started the match with a 7-5 margin over Augustana (Ill.) (1-3, 0-1 CCIW).  A kill from Carter Schmidt put Carthage up 13-10. Following a Vikings timeout, the home team went on a 11-5 run to take the set 25-17. 

In the second, Carthage went up 8-2 to start forcing a Vikings timeout. Later in the set, back-to-back kills from Bryce Thomas and Schmidt pushed the margin to 18-6 and went on to win the set 25-11. 

Augustana (Ill.) jumped out to a 7-5 lead in set three until a kill from Matt Slivinski and a block from Thomas tied it at seven. The home team put together a 7-2 to go up 14-9, forcing a Vikings timeout. Augustana (Ill.) got within two before a Vikings attack error made the score 18-14. Carthage ended the set with a 7-4 run to win the match 25-18. 
 
Next up, Carthage continues CCIW play facing Loras on Friday, February 19 scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
