KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College swimming and diving teams competed in the first double dual meet of 2021 on Saturday, February 6 against Illinois Wesleyan and Carroll (Wis.), who competed virtually.
The men's team had several first-place finishes between the two meets as the relay team of
Nick Nevins,
Ethan Hare,
Christian Snyder, and
Adam Moskus won the 200-yard medley relay in both meets. Carthage also had five individual race victories in both meets;
Lucas Rognrud in the 100-yard backstroke, Nevins in the 50-yard freestyle, Moskus in the 100-yard freestyle, and
Jack Piccoli in the 200-yard individual medley. The team of Nevins, Hare, Snyder, and Moskus also won the 200-yard freestyle relay.
During the Illinois Wesleyan meet, Snyder placed first in the 200-yard fly while Michael Bartczyszyn, Hare, Austin Johnson came away with first in the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, and 200-yard breaststroke respectively in the meet against Carroll (Wis.). Manny Contreras won his events in the one-meter and three-meter diving along with Bartczyszyn winning his second race of the day in the 500-yard freestyle.
On the women's side, Carthage had numerous first-place finishes in the two meets as the relay team of Jordyn Bloode, Kaitlyn Fogo, Elise Merucci, and Jordyn Kaplan won in the 200-yard medley relay, Fogo also took first in the 100-yard breaststroke in both meets. In diving events, Patricia Banasik won the one-meter and three-meter diving events while Kaplan, Merucci, Signe Hauck, and Izzy Bertaud won the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Sophomore Catherine Casanovas won her race in the 200-yard fly against Illinois Wesleyan while Carthage won eight races against Carroll (Wis.). Bloode won two events on the day placing first in the 1000-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. Ashleigh Espinoza won the 200-yard freestyle, Fogo placed first 100-yard breaststroke, Bertaud won the 50-yard freestyle, Hauck took the victory in the 100-yard freestyle, Alyssa Sayatovic won in the 200-yard breaststroke and Merucci came away with the victory in the 100-yard fly.
The swimming and diving teams return to the pool on Saturday, February 13 taking on Millikin which is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
"It was exhilarating to be racing again. We feel so fortunate to be able to compete this season, as we know there are so many teams and conferences not able. We thank Illinois Wesleyan for traveling up to our pool! They gave us exciting and fun races on Saturday with some great matchups. We're also so happy to have had Carroll competing virtually from their home pool."
