Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Firebirds Soar Past Cardinals 72-50

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College women's basketball team picked up their second-straight win, defeating North Central 72-50 on Saturday in Tarble Arena.

While the visitors were first on the board and led by as much as five in the first quarter, Carthage (2-7, 2-7 CCIW) would tie it at nine with a score down low from Amanda Larson. Although a free throw put North Central (1-8, 1-8 CCIW) up once more, a layup by Kelsey Coshun in the final minute of the quarter gave the home team a lead they would hold the rest of the game.

A three by Addison Ebeling and free throws from Margueret Spear gave the Firebirds a double-digit lead, 29-18, with two minutes remaining. Carthage would take a 10-point advantage into the halftime break at 35-25.

The Cardinals would get within six points minutes into the third quarter, before the home team jumped back out to a strong lead, with free throws from Lauren Knight making it 53-38 at the end of the period. The final 10 minutes of play saw the Firebirds extend their lead even further, before their 22-point victory at the final buzzer.

Up next, Carthage takes to the road to makeup a contest with North Park on Tuesday, February 23 at 7 p.m. in Chicago.
