KENOSHA, Wis. — The No. 9 Carthage College men's volleyball continued the Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) action on Friday night with a 3-0 win over Loras at Tarble Arena.
Carthage (5-0, 2-0 CCIW) started with a 9-5 start over Loras (1-2, 0-1 CCIW) in the first. The Duhawks bounced back to tie it at 14 and took a one-point lead forcing a Firebirds timeout. A kill from Zach Bulthuis and a block from
Blake Arnold flipped the score to 18-17 in favor of Carthage. The Firebirds ended the set with a 7-5 run to win 25-22.
In the second, Carthage opened with a 10-5 margin sparked by a kill from Bryce Thomas and a Duhawks attack error. Loras got within six until a kill from Carter Schmidt put the Firebirds up 20-13. A kill from Thomas gave Carthage a two-set lead 25-17.
Blake Arnold connected on a kill that got the Firebirds within one in the third set. A Duhawks attack error and a block from Schmidt put Carthage up one at 11-10. The lead would not grow greater than one for either side until a Loras service error made it 20-18 in favor of the home team. The Duhawks erased a two-point deficit to tie it at 22 however, a block from Gene McNulty and a Loras gave the Firebirds the win 25-23.
Carthage returns to the court next week traveling to face No. 14 North Central (Ill.) on Wednesday, February 24 at 7 p.m.

- Carthage hit .462 in set two with 14 kills off 26 attacks.
- Zach Bulthuis led the Firebirds in kills with 11 while Gene McNulty had 33 assists marking the fourth time this season he has registered 30 or more assists.
