Game Recap: #8 Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Clipped by Wheaton at Home

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's basketball team fell in close competition to No. 7 Wheaton 76-70 Saturday afternoon in the Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) action at Tarble Arena.

Wheaton (7-0, 7-0 CCIW) started with a 7-2 lead to begin the first until Carthage (3-3, 3-3 CCIW) battled back to take the lead at 16-13 with a three-pointer from Garrett Horner with 13:11 left. Later in the half, a pair of free throws from Fillip Bulatovic made it 26-23 with five minutes left. The lead would not grow greater than three for the home team as Carthage took a 33-31 advantage into the intermission break.

Carthage started the second with a 17-9 run making it 50-37 however, the Thunder responded, cutting the margin to one with seven minutes left. Five lead changes and one tie happened over the next two minutes before Wheaton (Ill.) controlled the game 66-64. Carthage would get as close as four but the Thunder won the game 76-70.

Carthage stays at home playing Carroll (Wis.) which is scheduled for Tuesday, February 16 beginning at 7 p.m.

Head Coach Steve Djurickovic

"Great effort against a top 10 team in the country. Basketball is the ultimate make or miss game, and they made some big-time shots late from some of their role players. We competed, executed on both ends for a majority of the game and I couldn't be happier with our effort and attention to detail.

A big week ahead for us, three games starting with a tough Carroll team coming on Tuesday. Need to put this one behind us and get ready for Tuesday night!"
