Carthage Men’s Basketball Comeback Falls Short against Carroll

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's basketball team dropped a close game to Carroll (Wis.) 69-59 on Tuesday evening in the Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) contest at Tarble Arena.

It was a close contest to start as Carthage (3-4, 3-4 CCIW) went up 10-5 with a three-point bucket from Josh Washburn. Carroll (Wis.) (3-3, 3-3 CCIW) responded with an 18-7 run flipping the score to 23-17 in favor of the visitors. Carthage battled back, cutting the margin to three with a layup from Sean Johnson at the 1:52 mark of the half however, the Pioneers took a five-point lead into the intermission break. 

The momentum for Carroll (Wis.) continued in the second going up 54-40 with 10:39 remaining. Carthage retaliated with a 15-3 run sparked by Sean Johnson scoring six of the 15 points and Garrett Horner scoring nine. The Pioneers countered going back up by eight with two minutes left. Carroll (Wis.) would hold on to take the game 69-59. 

Carthage is at home playing North Central which is scheduled for Thursday, February 18 beginning at 7 p.m.

  • For the fourth time this season, Josh Washburn scored over 13 points finishing the contest with 19. 
  • Sean Johnson added 17 points and 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season while TJ Best recorded a career-high in assists with 10. 
  • Freshman Garrett Horner recorded 12 points and three assists.
