Firebirds Rally Falls Short against North Park at Home

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's basketball team closed out their home December schedule with a 71-66 loss to North Park on Wednesday evening. 

Carthage (4-4, 0-3 CCIW) started with a six-point margin off a three-pointer from Kyle Czerak. Later, a layup from Garrett Horner pushed the lead to eight with 11:15 left in the first. After North Park (4-2, 1-0 CCIW) shrank the margin to one, a Vikings jumper tied it at 27. The visitors added a three-pointer going up 38-33 with 2:15 remaining in the half. North Park put in another three with 24 seconds left to head into the locker rooms up 41-36. 

Following the Vikings going up seven with a pair of free throws, Carthage fought back to tie it at 46 in the second. The Firebirds then used a 14-5 run flipping the score to 60-51 following a Fillip Bulatovic layup. After a timeout, North Park sliced the lead to one and then took a one-point lead with a layup. Three lead changes and one tie happened over the next three minutes of play until the visitors hit a jumper to control the game 68-66. North Park used a layup and free throw to win the game 71-66. 

Up next, the Firebirds are on the road facing Augustana (Ill.) on Saturday, December 11 at 7 p.m. 
 

Quick Facts

  • For the fifth game this season, Fillip Bulatovic had 20 or more points as he finished with 23 in the contest. Entering today, Bulatovic ranked third in the conference in scoring.
  • Bulatovic also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out a team-high three assists. 
  • Colton Sigel registered a new season-best on the day finishing with 12 points going 4-8 from the field. 
  • Garrett Horner chipped in with 11 points and two assists while Kyle Czerak added 10 points. Czerak also tallied five rebounds.
