Men’s Basketball Drops CCIW Road Contest to North Central

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Playing in their first away conference game of the season, the Carthage College men's basketball team fell to North Central (Ill.) 91-59 on Saturday at Gregory Arena.

Carthage (4-3, 0-2 CCIW) began the game with an 8-0 start with a layup from Fillip Bulatovic followed by back-to-back threes from Kyle Czerak. Following a timeout for the home team, North Central (Ill.) (4-1, 1-0 CCIW) went ahead 20-13 with a layup and free throw, however, AJ Johnson made it a three-point game with a layup with 11:43 remaining. A pair of layups for the Cardinals went ahead seven but Bulatovic cut the lead to four with a steal and layup 29-24. The Cardinals outscored the Firebirds 12-7 to go up 41-31 at halftime.

Carthage cut it to eight to start the second half off a layup from Bulatovic until the home team bumped the lead to 11 off a layup 48-37. North Central (Ill.) controlled a 17-point margin with back-to-back triples with 14:26 to go. The home team added a pair of layups for the Cardinals that made it 61-45. Later, Tyler Guest tapped it in which made the score 66-50 but the home team then used a 25-11 run to close out the game 91-59.

Carthage returns home for a 7 p.m. tipoff on Wednesday, December 7 against North Park.

Head Coach Steve Djurickovic

"The better team won today. As good as we were on the defensive end against Wheaton, we took a step backwards today. Our rotations were poor, we didn't close out on their shooters at all, and didn't compete on the boards. We will bounce back and be ready to get back to Tarble on Wednesday against North Park!"

Quick Facts

  • Senior Kyle Czerak tallied a new season-best in points with 15 while Fillip Bulatoic added 19 points.
