Firebirds Drop 67-40 Game Against No. 23 UW-Oshkosh

NORTHFIELD, Minn. — Facing their second ranked team of the season and playing in their second game at the Country Inn and Suites Holiday Classic at the Skoglund Center, the Carthage women's basketball team fell 67-40 to No. 23 UW-Oshkosh on Thursday evening.

The Titans (11-2) were first on the board before Lauren Herrmann scored for the Firebirds (8-4) to make it 4-2 minutes into the game. While Carthage got within one point after a layup from Kelsey Coshun near the end of the opening quarter, the 23rd-ranked Titans would hold a 15-9 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.

UW-Oshkosh continued to hold their lead through the second quarter, as the Firebirds went to the locker rooms for halftime trailing by 10, 29-19. The Titans held a double-digit lead through most of the third and fourth quarters, as Carthage went on to fall by 24.

Carthage will take the next week off before returning home to Tarble Arena, when they host Carroll for a 7 p.m. tipoff on Wednesday, January 5.

  • Lauren Knight was named to the all-tournament team after recording 28 total points, 11 rebounds and seven assists between both games.  
  • Kelsey Coshun led the Firebirds in points with nine points while adding two rebounds and one steal. 
  • Marianna Morrissey tallied eight points and two rebounds while Addison Ebeling had six points and led the team in rebounds with eight. 
  • After getting her first start yesterday, Elena Knebel has 12 rebounds over the past two games.
