Pioneers Defeat Firebirds 26-17

WAUKESHA, Wis. — The Carthage football team took to the road for the final time this season, falling to Carroll on Saturday 26-17 at Schneider Stadium.

The Firebirds (3-6, 3-5 CCIW) were first on the board, as they took their second drive of the day 80 yards down the field, with Bryce Lowe finding Jordan Wiles down the middle of the field for a 28-yard score. However, the Pioneers (5-4, 4-4 CCIW) took the ensuing kickoff back, before Bobby Baker III blocked the PAT to preserve the Carthage lead. Lowe fueled another 80-yard drive for the Firebirds, with Rey Guajardo catching a pass in the flats and diving at the pylon to help give the road team a 14-6 lead near the end of the first quarter. Carroll would connect on a 30-yard field goal and score a touchdown just before the halftime break to take a 16-14 lead.

The Pioneers were first on the board in the third quarter, before David Collins hit a 46-yard field goal to make it a 26-17 game at the start of the final period. However, the Firebirds were unable to find the end zone, with Carroll adding a field goal near the end of the game to make it a two-score game.

Carthage returns home for their final game of the season, as they host Washington University for senior day on Saturday, November 13 at 12 p.m.

Head Coach Dustin Hass

"We had our opportunities today but didn't make plays when it counted. We had too many missed throws, missed blocks, dropped passes, and missed tackles to be successful. We didn't do enough to overcome that today."
