Record Setting Day Leads Firebirds Past Panthers 138-125

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's basketball team picked up their fourth win on the season with a 138-125 victory over Greenville Tuesday evening at Tarble Arena. 

Carthage (4-1) began the game with a 12-9 lead over Greenville (1-5) with a layup from Tyler Guest. A layup at the 13:59 mark by Anthony Bernero put the Firebirds up six. The home team then put together a 22-10 run moving the score to 42-24 off a Guest jumper. The Panthers slowly chipped away at the lead as a layup cut it to 48-46 with 4:36 left in the half. The home team retaliated closing out the half with a 23-2 run to head into halftime up 71-50. 

In the second half, Fillip Bulatovic connected on a layup which put Carthage ahead 86-59. Later, the Panthers made it a 13-point game off a fast break layup with 7:08 remaining. Though the visitors got within 11 with under two minutes remaining, the Firebirds took the victory 138-125 with two final free throws by Tanner Lamb

Carthage stays at home for the conference opener against No. 6 Wheaton (Ill.) on Wednesday, December 1, for a 7 p.m. tipoff.

Quick Facts

  • The 138 points scored in the contest is a new team record for the program beating the previous record set on January 4, 2006, against Grinnell (135). 
  • The 263 combined points by both teams are the highest in program history. The previous record was set on November 16, 2019, when Carthage won over Greenville 133-126. 
  • As a team, the Firebirds set a new single-game record in assists with 44. 
  • Senior Tyler Guest is the 12th Carthage player in program history to score 40 or more points. Guest finished with a season-best 40 points and 11 rebounds. 
  • Junior Fillip Bulatovic registered his first career triple-double on the day recording 29 points, 15 assists, and 16 rebounds. Bulatovic is the second player to record a triple-double since Steve Djurickovic did it against Wisconsin Lutheran on November 29, 2009 (23 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists). 
  • Bulatovic also broke the record for most individual assists in a single game with 15 breaking Steve Djurickovic and Donte Logan's record of 13.
  • Garrett Horner tallied a double-double concluding with 12 points and 10 assists. 
  • Anthony Bernero added a career-best 19 points and four rebounds while Kyle Czerak and AJ Johnson had 13 and 11 points respectfully.
