Game Recap: #22 Men's Basketball |

Firebirds Fall to Wisconsin-Oshkosh in Hard-Fought Contest

OSHKOSH, Wis. — Playing in their first road game of the season, the Carthage College men's basketball team fell to No. 17 Wisconsin-Oshkosh 81-66 on Saturday evening at Kolf Sports Center.

Carthage (3-1) took an early 7-3 lead off a three-pointer from Fillip Bulatovic. Following the media timeout, a quick 7-2 run for Wisconsin-Oshkosh (5-1) flipped the score to 15-9. Another three from Bulatovic shrank the deficit to 15-14. With the score locked at 19, the Titan lead would not grow more than three as the score stayed at 26, heading to the second media timeout. A jumper from AJ Johnson put Carthage ahead 31-28, but the home team retaliated with a three and a two-point bucket to regain the lead. Bulatovic sank a hook shot that changed the score to 36-35 with 3:08 left, until Wisconsin-Oshkosh headed into the halftime break with a slim two-point advantage 41-39.

Garrett Horner nailed a three to get within one to start the second half as a layup from Bulatovic put Carthage ahead 44-43 early on. After the Titans got within two at 57-55, the home team took their first lead of the half with a layup 59-58. Tyler Guest sank a floater cutting the Titan lead to one with 7:36 remaining but Wisconsin-Oshkosh closed out the game with a 22-8 run to win 81-66.

Carthage returns home to face Greenville on Tuesday, November 23, at 4 p.m.

Head Coach Steve Djurickovic

"I couldn't be prouder of our effort tonight. I think we just ran out of gas a little the last 10 minutes, and they made us pay for it. Oshkosh is an experienced, physical basketball team that puts a lot of pressure on you around the basket. We need to do a better job of guarding without fouling and keeping the opponents off the free throw line. I'm even more optimistic about our group now than I was before the game! We just need to keep getting better each day and get ready for Greenville on Tuesday."
