Game Recap: #22 Men's Basketball |

Firebirds Run Past Defiance at Home

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's basketball team picked up their second-straight win to start the season beating Defiance 81-47 at home on Saturday afternoon.

Carthage (2-0) began the lead with a 10-7 lead off a layup from Crishawn Cook. After Defiance (1-2) got within one, the Firebirds made it a 12-point game with a layup from Fillip Bulatovic. Carthage closed the half with back-to-back buckets from Garrett Horner, putting the home team up 38-27.

Following a Yellow Jackets three-pointer to start the second, Carthage put together a 23-9 run extending the margin to 63-40 with a three-point play from Cook. Later in the half a three-pointer from Elijah Blake put the Firebirds up by 27 as Carthage took the victory 81-41.

The Firebirds stay at home facing Finlandia on Sunday, November 14 starting, at 2 p.m.

Head Coach Steve Djurickovic

"Nice home win. Defiance has some very talented perimeter players, and I thought we did a nice job containing them. Marell Jordan is an explosive offensive player, and I thought we did a nice job keeping him out of the paint.

It was a little bit of a disjointed game. We had some nice moments on the offensive end but need to do a better job finishing late in the shot clock. Elijah Blake had a stellar game on both ends of the floor. Fillip and Garrett continue to be rock solid.

We finish up our homestand tomorrow afternoon! We need to have another good effort!"
