Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Chicago Tops Carthage 1-0

CHICAGO — The Carthage men's soccer team traveled down to play 20th-ranked University of Chicago on Wednesday night, falling 1-0 in a battle at Stagg Field.

In a back-and-forth match, Chicago (7-3-1) struck first just over 28 minutes into the game. While Carthage (6-4-2) was unable to get many shots off, they threatened down in the Chicago area numerous times. Unable to find the back of the net, Carthage would lose their first match to a ranked team this season.

The Firebirds return home, and to their CCIW schedule, as they host Augustana at Art Keller Field on Saturday, October 9 at 7 p.m.

Head Coach Steve Domin

"You play great ranked teams you run the risk of getting mixed results, but we wouldn't want it any other way. Today was a tale of two halves. They really got after us in the opening 25 to 30 minutes, and had us on foot speed tonight, which we don't see a lot of in opponents. The second half we really opened it up, and despite a barrage of shots we accepted for a minute in front of our own goal, we didn't let too much go. And when we did, Lekki and Roth came up big."

"The stats were interesting. We only had one shot on frame in the second half but we were hunting in the area and forward often. It was fun to be a part of the second half, but probably a fair result at this point in the season."
