Carthage Falls to Augustana 42-14

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College football team hosted conference foe Augustana on Saturday, dropping a 42-14 contest at Art Keller Field.

It was the visiting Vikings (3-5, 2-5 CCIW) that found the end zone first, scoring on back-to-back drives late in the first quarter to take a 14-0 lead. Midway through the second period, Augustana scored to take a three-score lead, before a Sylvere Campbell kick return for a touchdown was called back on the ensuing kickoff. However, The Firebirds (3-5, 3-4 CCIW) would come out in the second half and score quickly, as Campbell found the end zone on offense this time after a 55-yard completion to make it 21-7.

The visitors would extend their lead further however, owning a 35-7 advantage entering the fourth quarter. Campbell scored once more before the game ended on a 42-yard completion from Kyle Jessie.

Carthage takes to the road next as they head to Carroll on Saturday, November 6 for a 1 p.m. kickoff.

Head Coach Dustin Hass

"We're not getting off of blocks and executing on defense, and not executing or finishing on offense either. We can't win football games that way, and it's been a point of emphasis for a couple of weeks now. On offense, third and two is a lot easier to pick up than third and 10. On third and two, the whole playbook is open, but third and long and behind the chains, the defense can drop eight and you're restricted. You have to help yourself on first and second down."

"Our guys have got a lot of fight left in them though, and they still believe in themselves. I told them after the game, you have to go out and win it, you can't just wish for a win. We tell them in the film room, in the weight room, and in practice that it all adds up to game day."
