Firebirds Drop CCIW Home Opener to North Central

KENOSHA, Wis. — Returning to Art Keller Field after a three-game road stretch, the No. 16 Carthage men's soccer team fell 1-0 to North Central on Saturday night.

Just before the 10-minute mark in the first half, the Cardinals (12-0-1, 2-0-1 CCIW) scored from over 20 yards out to take a 1-0 lead, a score that would hold until halftime. While the Firebirds (6-3-2, 0-2-1 CCIW) had a few close opportunities in North Central territory, they were unable to find the back of the net, falling in their home conference opener.

Carthage will take a break from their CCIW schedule next, as they travel south to take on Chicago on Wednesday, October 6 at 7 p.m.

Head Coach Steve Domin

"This one hurt because we felt like we were prepared and wanting to get back on the field after Wednesday. Following the Millikin game, the monkey jumped on our back a touch and we started to joy-stick our play. North Central got what they needed with an early homerun ball, stunned us for a few minutes, and as a result we didn't check in until the middle-to late portion of the first half."

"The interesting part is that in our last three matches, we have owned big chunks of the game, but haven't resulted, and that gets frustrating. We have a wonderful team with young guys who really believe. We just need to go back to having fun, being creative, and get in the back of the net. Joe Balas, Collin Moran, and Colin Iverson played really well today and that energy is inspiring."

Quick Facts

  • Christian Lekki tied his season-high with six saves tonight, and now has 37 on the season, good for fourth in the conference.
