Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Firebirds Drop CCIW Contest to Wheaton

WHEATON, Ill. — The Carthage College women's soccer team fell in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) action to Wheaton (Ill.) on Saturday night at Joe Bean Stadium.

Wheaton (Ill.) (7-5-2, 5-0 CCIW) got on the board first, scoring ten minutes into the match. The Thunder then added another goal with a strike 26 yards out that hit the top left corner of the net. Jenny García got the Carthage (3-10-0, 1-3 CCIW) scoring going as she hit a shot from the top of the box, shrinking the deficit to 3-1 heading into the halftime break. Out of the intermission break, Faith Roberts put a goal in for the Firebirds as she fired one from 21 yards out that hit the crossbar and into the goal making it 3-2. Wheaton (Ill.) retaliated 12 minutes later, flipping the score to 4-2. The Thunder put the game away with one more goal for a 5-2 final. 

Carthage stays on the road playing Carroll (Wis.) on Wednesday, October 20 at 7 p.m. 

Quick Facts

  • Freshman Faith Roberts recorded her first collegiate goal in the game as Jenny García recorded her first of the season. Roberts also had three shots in the contest. 
  • Morgan Verbeten registered five shots in the game while Erin Otto added two. 
  • Goalkeeper Sara Lieffrig made a season-high 13 saves in goal for the Firebirds.
