Game Recap: #22 Men's Basketball |

Carthage Tops North Park at Home

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's basketball team picked up their second home win of the season defeating North Park 69-55 in the Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) competition on Thursday at Tarble Arena.

It was close to start as a three-pointer by Josh Washburn gave Carthage (2-0, 2-0 CCIW) an 11-8 advantage over North Park (0-3, 0-3 CCIW). The lead for the home team grew to eight with 11:10 remaining until a 12-2 run for the Vikings flipped the score to 25-23. Four lead changes and two ties happened over the last four minutes of play as North Park held a slim 34-32 margin heading into the halftime break.

After a small 6-2 run for the visitors to open the half, Fillip Bulatovic scored the next 11 of the home team's 13 points and gave Carthage control at 45-42. Following a North Park layup, the home team put together another 16-3 run making it 61-47 with less than five minutes remaining. The Vikings cut the lead to 12 before Carthage took the game 69-55.

Carthage is scheduled to play North Park on Saturday, January 30 at 2 p.m.

Head Coach Steve Djurickovic

"Solid home win against a very talented North Park team. Our defensive attention to detail in the second half really made the difference in the game. TJ Best's effort on Toby Marek and Sean Johnson's effort on Jordan Boyd were what helped us stabilize the game in the middle of the second half. We need to be a little more consistent at times on the offensive end, but overall I couldn't be happier with where we are at through two games.

Fillip Bulatovic absolutely took over the game in the second half. He struggled from the free-throw line in the first half but kept attacking and getting into the paint late in the game. He's got such a nice variety to his game that makes him difficult to guard. Sean Johnson continues to be a force on both ends of the floor. 15 rebounds and six blocked shots again for him tonight. We still need to find him more touches on the block, but he's playing terrific.

I'm super proud of this group. Still working to get better every single day and excited to have another opportunity on Saturday at North Park!"
