Game Recap: #22 Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Drops Road Contest to North Park

CHICAGO — The Carthage College men's basketball team fell to North Park in their first road game of the season 78-68 in the Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) competition Saturday at North Park Gymnasium.

Carthage (2-1, 2-1 CCIW) began the game with a 9-3 lead over North Park (1-3, 1-3 CCIW) sparked by a three-pointer from Kyle Peirce and a jumper from Fillip Bulatovic. The Vikings rallied to tie the game at 16 and took over the lead with less than eight minutes remaining. A layup from Bultatovic saw the game locked at 25 until a 12-5 run for North Park switched the score to 37-30. A buzzer-beating layup from Sean Johnson shrank the margin to 39-38 in favor of the home team heading to halftime.

North Park added to their lead in the second half going up 47-40, however, the visitors battled back tying it at 49, and went up 51-49 with a jumper from Johnson. The Vikings responded with another 16-5 run to take back the lead with 9:54 left in the game. The visitors chipped away at the lead cutting it to 74-68 with under two minutes left but North Park took the victory 78-68.

Carthage stays on the road playing Carroll (Wis.) which is scheduled for Tuesday, February 2 beginning at 7 p.m.

Head Coach Steve Djurickovic

"Tough loss to a talented North Park team. We just had no answer for Toby Marek who couldn't miss today. Our defense in the first two games, especially our three-point defense, was spectacular. Today we allowed them to shoot 12-19 from behind the arc.

We just seemed a step slow all night on both ends of the floor. The 50-50 balls seemed like they were 80-20 towards North Park today. Give them credit. They played with more of a sense of urgency than we did.

Big upcoming stretch for us. Four more games on the road with Carroll first on Tuesday."
