Carthage Drops Home Contest to Wisconsin-River Falls

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College women's lacrosse team fell to Wisconsin-River Falls 21-11 on Friday at Art Keller Field.

The Falcons (2-0) struck first with four goals to begin the half before a goal by Elizabeth Oda made it 4-1. Wisconsin-River Falls added another goal to go back up 5-1 however, Jessie Gibson got in the score column to shrink the deficit to three. The Falcons put another goal on the board to put the visitors up 6-2. Three-straight goals for the Lady Reds (3-2) from Elena Herman and two from Gibson narrowed the gap to 6-5 forcing a Wisconsin-River Falls timeout.  Out of the timeout, the Falcons retaliated with three-straight goals to go back up four however, Nicole Bowman put one in the net to make it 9-6. Carthage headed into the intermission break trailing 11-6.

Wisconsin-River Falls tacked on four goals to start the second. Gibson found the back of the net again to cut the gap to nine before the Falcons responded to go up 17-7. After Wisconsin-River Falls added one, the Lad Reds scored four unanswered goals to narrow the advantage to 18-11 but the Falcons added one to move the score to 19-11. Wisconsin-River Falls went on to take the game 21-11. 

Next up, Carthage goes on the road to face Berry on the campus of Southwestern in Georgetown, Texas on Sunday, March 2 starting at 2 p.m. 

Quick Facts

  • For the second consecutive game, Jessie Gibson finished the game with six goals and now leads the Lady Reds on the season with 25. 
  • Nicole Bowman tallied two goals on the day while finishing with one assist. 
  • Gibson also added two assists in the game.
