Red Men Blank Falcons in Straight Sets

MEQUON, Wis. — The No. 10 Carthage College men's volleyball team swept Concordia (Wis.) 3-0 in a non-conference match on Saturday morning at R. John Buuck Field House.

The Red Men (6-3) jumped out to a 9-5 lead in set one before putting together a 9-4 run to extend the advantage to 18-9 with a kill from Matt Slivinski. Carthage closed with a 7-3 run to take a one set lead 25-12.

The Red Men went up 10-6 with a kill from Zach Bulthuis to start the second. Later in the set, a kill from Peyton Wieter made it 22-16 before Carthage took the set 25-19.

The Red Men continued the momentum in the third going up 13-3 to start. Concordia (Wis.) (5-4) cut the deficit to eight until a Falcons attack error saw Carthage come away with the straight set sweep.

The Red Men return to the court on Wednesday, February 18 in the first conference match of the season against Augustana (Ill.) at 7 p.m.

Head Coach JW Kieckhefer

"Great effort today by our group. We were able to clean up our serve and pass game and it led to a great day for our offense. We got some valuable experience for a lot of our young players today and they were able to take advantage of it. We are excited to open CCIW Men's Volleyball play for the first time ever on Tuesday! Augustana is a great team and has some signature wins this season. We will have to continue to be clean within the serve and pass portions of our game to put us in a position to win."
