Lady Reds Take Down North Park on the Road 62-53

CHICAGO — Traveling to take on North Park who sits atop the conference standings, the Carthage College women's basketball team came out with a victory, defeating the Vikings 62-53 Wednesday night at North Park Gymnasium.

The home team would get on the board first before Amanda Larson tied it at two with a layup. While the Vikings (17-6, 10-4 CCIW) would respond, Autumn Kalis quickly put the Lady Reds (11-11, 6-7 CCIW) on top with a three pointer. A pair of baskets from Maggie Berigan and three-point bucket by Sammie Woodward would put Carthage out in front at the end of the first quarter 12-10.

Woodward opened the second period with a make from beyond the arc to put the Lady Reds up five, before North Park tied the game at 17 moments later. While the Vikings would take a lead for a majority of the quarter, a layup from Kalis and three by Larson to close out the half gave Carthage the lead 24-22 at halftime.

Five quick points from Kalis extended a Lady Reds lead they would hold for the rest of the night, as they stepped out in front by 11 after free throws by Woodward, their largest lead of the game. While the Vikings inched their way back, cutting the Carthage lead to four with just under four minutes remaining in the contest, the Lady Reds would eventually take down North Park by a final tally of 62-53.

Carthage will remain on the road and travel to Augustana for a 5 p.m. game on Saturday, February 15.
