Red Men Edged Out by Wheaton at Home

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaking 67-65 loss to Wheaton (Ill.) in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) competition Saturday at Tarble Arena.

While the visitors would take an early 7-2 lead, the Red Men (11-7, 3-6 CCIW) rallied back on a three pointer by Fillip Bulatovic to go out in front 12-11. A jumper from Sean Johnson and three by the Thunder (12-6, 6-3 CCIW) drew the game even at 14, before a dunk from Bulatovic put Carthage up 20-14 with just over five minutes remaining in the half. After Wheaton drew it even yet again, this time at 24, they connected on the final score of the period to take a 33-30 advantage into the halftime break.

Wheaton (Ill.) pushed the lead to nine to start the second half before Carthage tied the game at 49 with 9:08 remaining in regulation. The Thunder went up five until the Red Men rallied to take the lead with a three pointer from Jordon Kedrowski. A layup for Wheaton (Ill.) switched the score to 61-60 in favor of the Thunder with 2:44 left. The Thunder lead did not grow more than two the final two minutes until Johnson hit a jumper to tie the game at 65 with 25 seconds left. Wheaton (Ill.) sank a jumper with one second left at 67-65. A three from Kienan Baltimore at the buzzer missed the mark and sealed the victory for the Thunder.

The Red Men stay at home facing Carroll (Wis.) on Wednesday, January 29 at 7 p.m.
