Lady Reds Fall in Tough Road Game 68-57 at North Central

NAPERVILLE, Ill. — Playing in their second conference road game of the week, the Carthage College women's basketball team dropped a 68-57 contest at North Central Wednesday night at Gregory Arena.

The Lady Reds (8-7, 3-3 CCIW) responded to an opening three from the Cardinals (7-9, 3-4 CCIW), as Amanda Larson found Kelsey Coshun for a jumper to make it a 3-2 game. North Central would step out in front by 10 early, eventually taking a 24-11 advantage into the second quarter.

A pair of free throws by Coshun and three pointer from Autumn Kalis made it 24-16, with the home team sinking a three of their own moments later. The Lady Reds would close out the half with a 10-2 run, which started on a layup from Larson before she found Destiny Antoine for a three on the following possession. Coshun would convert an and-one play with just over a minute left on the clock, before the sophomore forward closed out the half with two more to make it 37-30 at the break in favor of North Central.

The two teams traded scores to begin the third quarter, before North Central went on a run to go up by 16. After they entered the final 10 minutes of play with a 52-37 deficit, Carthage was unable to trim the Cardinals lead, eventually falling 68-57 in a tough road game.

The Lady Reds will return home this weekend to host Millikin on Saturday, January 18 at 5 p.m. in Tarble Arena.

Head Coach Tim Bernero

"We never gave ourselves a chance tonight. We didn't defend the way we planned, and didn't execute our offense efficiently like we have been. We got out rebounded by 17, and it's hard to win a game that way."
