Carthage Goes Undefeated at Pointers Invitational

STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- The No. 19 Carthage College women's volleyball team completed an undefeated run at the Pointers Invitational, defeating Bethel 3-1 Saturday morning in the Berg Gymnasium.

The Lady Reds (7-1) remained in the driver's seat for a majority of the first set. After entering a tie with the Royals (2-2) at two-all, Carthage grabbed the lead and held it through the remainder of the frame, coming out on top 25-16. Set two was a battle which saw seven lead-changes and 11 ties, the last of which occurred at 22. The Lady Reds would claim three-straight points to go up two sets to none.

In set three, each team traded points early, with the score reaching a stalemate at 11. After the Royals took a lead 13-12, they would go on a run to take set three and make it a 2-1 match.

After taking the lead on the first point of the final set, Carthage would maintain the advantage through the rest of the game. The Lady Reds held off a slight push back from Bethel to win the fourth set 25-19 for their seventh victory on the season.

Carthage now turns their attention to their home-opener in the Tarble Arena this Wednesday, September 11, as they host Lake Forest College at 7 p.m.

Head Coach Leanne Ulmer

"This was a nice win against an athletic Bethel team. Our ball control was very good in all but set three. Ellie LeCount had a very good game running the team, and Haley Horner was really good this match, and that is fun to watch. Good team defense with some tough serving sealed the deal for us today."
