No. 19 Carthage Beats Lake Forest 3-0

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The No. 19 Carthage College women's volleyball team defeated Lake Forest 3-0 in the season home opener at Tarble Arena Wednesday evening.

For the Lady Reds (8-1), it was a back-and-forth effort to start with Lake Forest (4-5) before two big runs to end the first set in favor of the Carthage 25-16. The home team continued their momentum into the second frame, taking a quick 7-0 lead. After going up 18-4, the Foresters began to climb back in, but the Lady Reds held off the come back for the 25-13 win to go up two sets to none. The Lady Reds continued to hit on all cylinders sparked by back-to-back kills from Ellie LeCount and Andrea Kozak. Carthage went on to take the match 25-13.

The Lady Reds are back in action this weekend for the Sandy Schumacher Tournament hosted by Wisconsin-Eau Claire as they open the tournament playing St. Thomas on Friday, September 13 at 5 p.m.

Head Coach Leanne Ulmer

"It was great to be home in front of our crowd. We got off to a slow start in set one, we had a few nerves being home for the first time. Once we settled down, we were able to get our offense going. Haley Horner was a force tonight and Ellie LeCount did a great job getting her the ball. Megan Behrendt and Shannon Kebisek did a nice job all around, and Laura DeRosales did a very good job defensively. Nicole Acton had some strong blocks and along with Haley, slowed down their offense."
