Red Men Fall 2-0 to Knox College

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Carthage men's soccer team dropped a competitive match to Knox College Friday night, falling 2-0 at Art Keller Field.

Knox (2-1) struck first, with Adetayo Adefioye scoring just before the seventh minute in the first half. The two teams exchanged possession for the next ten minutes before Carthage (0-3) got their best opportunity, as David Snooks headed a beautiful cross that rang off the crossbar and out of play.

Carthage started strong in the second half, sending three shots in the direction of the Knox keeper minutes into play. The Prairie Fire mounted some pressure of their own in the 56th minute as they sent a hard shot in on Carthage keeper Niko Mavrogiannis that was kept out.

The Prairie Fire would get their final goal in the 60th minute.

The Red Men will host Alma College on Sunday, September 8 at 3 p.m. in game three of the Carthage College Invitational.

Head Coach Steve Domin

"It was an odd game today, we never really had our footing following the early goal. It's interesting if you look at the stats, we owned the shots, possession, corners, and foul battle, but had nothing to show for it."

"Knox is a team that won 15 games last year, made a run in the NCAA tournament, and are off to a good start this season, so give them some credit. However, I think they might have gotten us on the right night. I know everyone wants to make excuses - being heavily injured coupled with some inexperience and youth behind it - however we should be deep enough to carry us through non-league play."

"I haven't seen three losses in a row here in a long time. Playing the schedule we do is always a risk in that, but trust us, it will make us a stronger team down the road. Everyone has to reach a little deeper."

  • The Red Men out-shot Knox College in the contest 13 to seven.
