No. 19 Carthage Drops Road Match to No. 12 Wisconsin-Whitewater

WHITEWATER, Wis. -- The No. 19 ranked Carthage College women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match to No. 12 ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater 3-1 Wednesday at Kris Russel Volleyball Arena. 

In the opening set, the Lady Reds (4-1) jumped out to a 7-5 lead. Wisconsin-Whitewater (4-0) retaliated taking a 12-9 advantage. Carthage climbed back to tie the set at 19 and later hold a one-point lead at 20-19 before Wisconsin-Whitewater went on to take the first set 25-23. The Warhawks made the score 8-6 in set two. Carthage rallied to take a 17-16 advantage. The Lady Reds and Warhawks battled back-and-forth with the score tied at 20. A kill by Shannon Kebisek gave Carthage the set at 25-23. It was all Wisconsin-Whitewater in the third set as the Warhawks sprang out to a 10-2 advantage and took the set 25-11. Wisconsin-Whitewater continued the momentum in the fourth set taking a 9-5 lead before going on to win the match 25-14.

Carthage will be in action Friday, September 6 taking on Concordia (Wis.) starting at 5 p.m. in the first match of the Pointers Invitational hosted by Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

"We faced a tough regional opponent tonight. It was an exciting match for two sets then we lost our focus. Their serving keep us scrambling tonight. We are ready to get back to practice and prep for this weekend."
