Red Men Take Down Carroll 3-0

WAUKESHA, Wis. -- In their first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) match of the 2019 season, the Carthage College men's soccer team defeated Carroll University 3-0 Saturday night at Schneider Stadium.

Each team opened the contest aggressive, trading shots within the first few minutes before Jerry Patino connected on the first score of the night for the Red Men (5-5, 1-0 CCIW) in the ninth minute. The senior would later convert a penalty after Carthage drew a foul in the box in the 18th, his second multi-goal match of the season.

Carthage would hold the lead for the remainder of the contest, scoring once more after Carroll (5-3, 0-1) fouled the Red Men in the box again, leading to another penalty attempt which was converted this time by Jeff Montemayor.

The Red Men will take a break from conference play this coming Wednesday, October 2 when they host Lake Forest College at 7:30 p.m. at Art Keller Field.

Head Coach Steve Domin

"It's always difficult to go on the road and play a conference opener. That is the best Carroll team I have coached against in years, Derek is going a great job. Clearly we got a couple more of our wounded players back today, and we hope to rest a few more with non-conference coming up. Our midfield played well in the first 20 to 30 minutes, but the truth is we played fairly average. I guess a sign of a good team, not playing our best and winning, but we have another gear still."

Quick Facts

  • With two goals tonight, Jerry Patino has scored four times in the last three matches.
  • The senior now has five goals on the year, and 17 in his career at Carthage.
  • Jeff Montemayor scored his first goal of his senior season tonight, his fifth of his career.
  • The Red Men now own a 10-3-2 record all-time against the Pioneers.
