Carthage Falls at Home to Washington 21-10

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Carthage College football team fell in a tough contest with Washington University in St. Louis 21-10 Saturday afternoon at Art Keller Field.

Neither offense could get rolling in the first half, as the Red Men (1-2, 1-1 CCIW) defense held a Bears (2-1, 1-1 CCIW) team scoreless that entered today with 43 first-half points in their first two games. On the first drive of the game for the road team, freshman defensive back Damian Lomeli picked off his first pass of his Carthage career, with Jeremiah Baker collected his first as well early in the second quarter.

With the two interceptions and a blocked field goal, the Red Men held Washington off the board to keep it a 0-0 tie at the break.

Another shutout quarter from the home team in the third allowed Carthage to take the lead on a 42-yard field goal as the clock hit zero. However, the Bears offense would come alive in the fourth, as they scored 21 to the Red Men's seven, setting the score at 21-10 in favor of Washington.

Carthage will hit the road to face Elmhurst next Saturday, October 5 at 1 p.m.

Head Coach Dustin Hass

"I thought the defense played well today, but got worn down in the fourth quarter. Our offense didn't execute like we are capable of doing. We need to convert, stay on the field, and finish our drives."
