Women’s Volleyball Defeats Wheaton at Home; Lady Reds Claim First Place in CCIW

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The No. 6 Carthage College women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 home victory over Wheaton (Ill.) in Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) action Wednesday evening at Tarble Arena. The victory gave the Lady Reds sole possession of first place in the CCIW.

Carthage (16-1, 2-0 CCIW) went up on Wheaton (Ill.) (10-6, 2-1 CCIW) 13-1 to start. The Lady reds went on to win to take the set 25-9. It was a back-and-forth set two with the Thunder holding a slim one-point lead at 11-10. Carthage retaliated taking an 18-13 advantage before taking the set 25-19. The Thunder got as close as 11 in the third before the Lady Reds went on to take the straight-set victory 25-12.

Carthage continues conference play on Wednesday, October 2 taking on North Central at 7 p.m. at Gregory Arena.

Head Coach Leanne Ulmer

"Strong performance for the Lady Reds tonight against a good Wheaton team. Megan Behrendt was impressive tonight, and her service run early in set one set the tone. Our serving as a team kept them off balance and Haley Horner had some big blocks. Laura de Rosales was hustling all night and had some great digs and Nicole Acton had another strong night at the net. Ellie LeCount moved the ball around making us difficult to defend. It's always a good night when we get a CCIW win! Now we get the weekend off and get back at it next week against North Central."

  • Andrea Kozak had a season-high nine blocks.
  • Haley Horner chipped in with 11 kills
  • Megan Behrendt had nine kills with a .500 hitting percentage, adding three blocks and a pair of aces.
