Lady Reds Tie For a Single-Game Program Record 25 Goals in Rout Over Dubuque



 



DUBUQUE, IOWA.—After a 10-day break from competition, the Carthage College women's lacrosse team squared-off against University of Dubuque at Oyen Field in Dubuque, Iowa on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Reds rebounded from a three-game losing skid in a big way as six goals from each Jessie Gibson and Nicole Bowman cemented a 25-1 victory over the Spartans.
 
The Lady Reds' 25 goals also ties a single-game program record, achieved on two other occasions, most recently in a 25-7 win over Loras on April 1, 2014. In addition, the Lady Reds set single-game teams records with 43 points, 17 assists, 54 shots and 24 draw controls. Nicole Bowman's 15 shots also goes down as single-game school record. 
 
Gibson, who also registered 13 shots, paced Carthage in all facets of the game as she posted six caused turnovers, 10 draw controls and four ground balls in the winning-effort. Bowman, who tallied a game-high 15 shots, added three assists to her total for a nine-point game. Carthage finished the contest with 23 caused turnovers, where Marissa Pellegrini and Maddie Berni each contributed three in addition to Gibson's six. Berni also notched a six-point game with five goals and one assist. Margaux Giacotto was also impressive with three goals and two assists for five points.
 
The Lady Reds outshot Dubuque 54-4 in the contest, and also held steep advantages in ground balls (33-10) and draw controls (24-4).   
 
Amy Sorge played the first 30:00 in goal for Carthage and secured the win before Sam Bednarz played the final 30:00, where neither of them needed to make saves. Kaley Weir made 19 saves in goal for the Spartans in the losing effort.
 
The victory pushes Carthage's record to 4-5, 1-0 CCIW while Dubuque falls to 0-8, 0-2 CCIW.

Carthage torched Dubuque for a 27-1 edge in shots on goal in the first half. The Spartans' lone shot on goal found the back of the net, but it was the Lady Reds with the 15-1 lead at halftime. Six different Lady Reds scored in their 10-0 second half, which sealed them a 25-1 thrashing over Dubuque.
 
The Lady Reds will return to action on Wednesday, April 10 at North Central College (Ill.) for a 7:00 p.m. game time.
