KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College women's lacrosse team's 2019 home finale on Wednesday pitted them against a depleted Elmhurst College squad that only had one bench player. The Lady Reds' depth was too much for Elmhurst in a 22-1 blowout that ended with 11:30 left in the second half due to an injured Bluejays goalie.
Jessie Gibson's eight goals was one shy of tying a single-game program record, set by
Rachel Mussell's nine tallies in a 20-17 loss to North Central in the 2018 CCIW Tournament Semifinal on May 2, 2018. She added three assists for an 11-point game. The Lady Reds notched three man-down goals in the first half, enough for a single-game program record. The Lady Reds' 19 assists in the contest is also a single-game program record.
Offense was just one fraction of Gibson's game as she notched four caused turnovers, three ground balls along with a game-high 12 shots and 11 shots on goal.
Maddie Berni tallied a four-goal game while
Nicole Bowman was on her heels with a trio of goals along with five assists for an eight-point game.
Emily Lima notched a game-high six caused turnovers for the Lady Reds.
The Lady Reds outshot Elmhurst 42-4.
Sam Bednarz played the first 34:10 in net for Carthage and made three saves in the winning effort. Elmhurst goalies Marissa Vaca and Marie Corpuz combined for 10 saves.
Carthage improves to 6-8, 3-3 CCIW while Elmhust falls to 1-12, 0-6 CCIW. The Lady Reds will need a road victory over University of Chicago on Saturday, April 27 in order to keep their CCIW Tournament hopes alive.
