KENOSHA, WIS.—Senior day was billed for the Carthage College women's lacrosse team's Saturday-afternoon outing against Augustana College at Art Keller Field, where
Greigh Hoeft was honored as the lone fourth-year player. The Lady Reds either led or tied throughout the entire game, but that didn't come without the Vikings riding on their shoe strings from start-to-finish. It required a heroic moment to come out of Saturday alive, and
Nicole Bowman accomplished that with a game-winning man-down goal with 2:40 left in the game that gave Carthage a 13-12 lead, where they held on for the victory.
Saturday was also billed Beat Diabetes Day. The Lady Reds sold Beat Diabetes t-shirts throughout Saturday's contest.
The Lady Reds were lethal in special team opportunities as they finished the contest with two man-down goals, and one man-up tally.
Jessie Gibson continued her jack-of-all-trades mentality with a team-high four goals, 11 shots, eight shots on goal, three ground balls and seven draw controls. Hoeft,
Margaux Giacotto, Bowman and
Maddie Berni each netted a pair of goals for the Carthage offense.
Emily Lima added four more caused turnovers to her resume against the Vikings.
The Lady Reds outshot Augustana 32-21. Carla Bennett notched a game-high five goals for Augustana.
Amy Sorge registered one save over 52:01 of work in net for the Lady Reds, while
Sam Bednarz tallied two saves in 7:59 of action. Augustana goalie Courtney Veitch made 11 saves for the Vikings.
Carthage improves to 5-8, 2-3 CCIW while Augustana falls to 5-10, 1-5 CCIW.
Lady Reds 13, Augustana 12
Carthage jumped to their largest cushion of the contest at 4-0 with 25:22 left in the first half. The Vikings cut Carthage's lead to one goal five times before they finally got even at 10-10 with 10:24 left in the second off Carla Bennett's goal. Goals from Christina McCabe and Bennett tied the score twice more at 11-11 and 12-12 before Bowman's game-winning man-down tally with 2:40 left in the game gave Carthage a 13-12 victory.
