Gibson and Giacotto Combine For 11 Goals, Lima Becomes All-Time Caused Turnover Queen in 17-14 Loss to Pioneers

WAUKESHA, WIS.—The Carthage College women's lacrosse team made the 45-minute trek northwest for a Thursday-night match against Carroll University at Schneider Stadium in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Six goals from Jessie Gibson, and five more from Margaux Giacotto weren't quite enough for the Lady Reds in a 17-14 loss to the Pioneers. Emily Lima became Carthage's career caused turnover queen as she added two to her resume against Carroll (Wis.), which gives her 109 for her career, passing Maddie Griffin's previous record of 107.

The Giacotto-Gibson dynamic duo didn't just produce offense as they accounted for 21 draw controls, 18 ground balls and four caused turnovers for the Lady Reds. Gibson triggered Carroll for 10 shots, while Nicole Bowman followed with six that resulted in two goals and one assist. The Pioneers outshot Carthage 32-25, but it was the Lady Reds who held advantages in ground balls (33-26) and draw controls (22-10).

Michaela Johnson had a monster game for Carroll with seven goals.

Lady Reds goalie Amy Sorge notched five saves in the complete-game loss, while Shelby Schoob notched seven saves in the winning-effort for Carroll.

Carthage falls to 4-8, 1-3 CCIW while Carroll ups their record to 10-2, 4-0 CCIW.

Carthage led throughout the opening five minutes of the game, but Carroll put an end to that for good when Johnson's free-position goal with 25:04 left in the first knotted the contest 2-2. Both teams traded goals once more to make the score 3-3 at the 23:25 mark, but the Pioneers responded with a 4-0 run that gave them the lead for good at 7-3 with 15:31 left in the opening half.

Giacotto's two goals, and Lima's record-setting caused turnover with 2:28 left in the first highlighted the Lady Reds' 5-3 run to close the frame, which narrowed their deficit to 10-8 at halftime.

Déjà vu took its toll in the second half as the Lady Reds cut their deficit to one goal on a pair of occasions at 12-11 (21:07 left) and 15-14 (4:37 left). Both instances resulted in 2-0 Pioneers runs that helped stretched their lead, with the later instance resulting in a 17-14 win.

The Lady Reds will square-off against Augustana College at Art Keller Field on Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m. Greigh Hoeft will be honored as Carthage's lone senior on the roster.
