Lady Reds Couldn't Find an Answer in Tough Loss to Wooster



 


WOOSTER, OHIO.—The Carthage College women's lacrosse team's two-game spring break trek began with a match at Wooster College on Thursday evening. The Lady Reds didn't fare well in a 23-2 loss to the Scots.
 
Carthage finished the contest with a respectable nine draw controls and 13 ground balls. Jessie Gibson was all over the stat sheet for Carthage as she paced the team in nearly every category with one goal, three shots, two caused turnovers and five draw controls in the game.
 
Wooster's Alexa Mellis led all goal scorers with six goals and two assists for eight points. Teammate Laura Papp also notched eight points in the contest with four goals and four assists.
 
Carthage goalie Amy Sorge made three saves over 50:14 in the losing effort before she was relieved by Sam Bednarz, who made no saves within the final 9:46.
 
The Lady Reds fall to 3-3 while Wooster stays undefeated at 4-0. Wooster goalkeeper Caroline Dent made three saves in the complete-game win.

Hanna Holloway scored Carthage's first goal with 10:46 left in the first to cut their deficit to 10-1. It took eight more Wooster goals before the Lady Reds answered again, this time it was Jessie Gibson with 19:27 left in the second to narrow the deficit to 18-2. Wooster added five more goals to secure the 23-2 win.
 
The Lady Reds will travel to Wittenberg University on Sunday, March 10 for a 12:00 p.m. ET game time.
