Olivet No Match For #1 Red Men in 3-0 Ousting

OLIVET, MICH.—A two-game Michigan road trip began with a Friday-night bout at Olivet College for the Carthage College men's volleyball team. The Red Men's season-high 19 total blocks, eight service aces and .474 hitting percentage propelled them to a 3-0 sweep over the Comets, putting them one victory away from clinching the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) Regular Season Championship outright. Carthage has now swept the opposition in 11 of their last 12 matches.

Half of those service aces were courtesy of Matt Slivinski, whose four all occurred in the 25-8 set-one victory for the Red Men. Carthage was balanced at the net as 10 different players notched a block, led by Eric Winter's five.

Parker Connolly was efficient for the Red Men with eight kills on nine attack attempts for a .778 hitting mark. On Connolly's heels was Bryce Thomas's .545 hitting mark that included seven kills. Braeden Waumans was a two-way threat for the Red Men with six kills, six digs and three blocks. Slivinski's four service aces were complimented with four kills in the match.

Matt Reinsel posted a 36-assist effort for the Red Men.

The Red Men held Olivet to just -.074 hitting. Deivan Price and Brock Pringle were the lone Comets to keep their head above water with five and eight kills respectively.

Carthage improves to 20-1, 7-0 MCVL while Olivet falls to 3-14, 1-5 MCVL.

Red Men 3, Olivet 0

The Red Men's 15-2 run, highlighted by Slivinski's four aces, was too much for Olivet to overcome in a 25-8 ousting in set one. The Red Men exploited 13 Olivet errors in set two en route to a 25-15 win. Five different Carthage players contributed kills in set three, where they secured a 25-18 victory.

Carthage will square-off against Adrian College tomorrow, Saturday, March 30 in Adrian, Michigan for a 1:00 p.m. (ET) game time.
