#4 Red Men Surge Past Trine 3-0

KENOSHA, WIS.—The Carthage College men's volleyball team concluded the front-end of spring break with a Saturday-matinee against Trine University at Tarble Arena. The Red Men put the finishing touches on a perfect weekend with a 3-0 sweep of the Thunder.

Evan Walsh paced the Red Men on both ends of the floor with 12 kills and eight digs. Blake Arnold, who's been primarily used as a serving specialist for most of the season, made the most of his permanent stay in the lineup with a 10-kill effort along with a .476 hitting percentage and a pair of blocks. Conner Lilly duplicated his performance from last night's win against Mount St. Joseph with seven kills along with three blocks for Carthage.

Matt Reinsel posted 22 assists for the Red Men before he turned things over to Jacob Allard, who finished the contest with 16 assists.

The Red Men hit .386 as a team, and held the Thunder to a .178 figure. Eric Santiago-Garcia led all players with 17 kills in the contest.

The Red Men improve to 14-1, 2-0 MCVL while Trine falls to 4-14.

Carthage's 12-3 cushion in set one was enough to secure them a 25-14 victory, much thanks to Evan Walsh's five kills in the frame. After Carthage jumped to a 5-0 lead in set two, the Thunder narrowed their margin to one point on two occasions at 14-13 and 15-14. Carthage responded with a 4-0 run and a 19-14 lead, which put the nail in the coffin in a 25-20 win in set two.

Allard posted 15 assists in set three, where Arnold and Walsh each registered five kills to propel Carthage to a 25-18 win and 3-0 match sweep.

The Red Men will return to action on Wednesday, March 6 when they host Cardinal Stritch University at 7:00 p.m.
