ST. LOUIS, MO.—The back-end a two-game St. Louis Valley road trip pitted the #1 Carthage College men's volleyball team at Fontbonne University on Saturday. The Red Men handed the Griffins their second loss of the season in a 3-0 sweep that consisted of 25-23 scores.
Evan Walsh paced Carthage's offense for the second-straight match with 15 kills, while
Matt Slivinski was on his heels with 14 along with a .321 hitting percentage and nine digs.
Kyle Cohan's 10 digs paced the Red Men while
Eric Winter was all over the net with a team-high six blocks.
Both teams posted high percentage performances as Carthage hit .248 compared to Fontbonne's .196 mark. The Griffins and Red Men each tallied 34 digs on the afternoon. Brendon Schwartze paced Fontbonne with 11 kills and a .375 hitting percentage.
The Red Men up their win streak to 10 and improve to 17-1, 4-0 MCVL while Fontbonne falls to 17-2, 2-2 MCVL.

The Griffins led for a majority of the opening set and allowed a 21-17 advantage to spark a Red Men 8-2 run.
Evan Walsh commanded the Red Men with three kills in the run, which propelled his team to a 25-23 win in set one.
Fontbonne's lone two leads of set two were 8-7 and 9-8 before Walsh's two kills engineered a Red Men 5-0 run that gave them a 13-9 edge. It was a lead Carthage didn't surrender as three Slivinski kills down the stretch sealed a 25-23 win in set two. The Red Men posted 17 kills in the third set, where Slivinski led the way with five. Carthage led 23-19 before the Griffins cut their deficit to one point at 23-22 and 24-23 before Slivinski's kill cemented a 25-23 victory and 3-0 sweep.
The Red Men will host Augustana College at Tarble Arena on Friday, March 22 at 7:00 p.m.
