Game Recap: #6 Men's Volleyball | | By David Nelson, Interim Assistant Director of Athletics For Communications

#1 Red Men Throttle Greenville 3-0

GREENVILLE, ILL.—After a nine-day hiatus from competition, the #1 Carthage College men's volleyball team squared-off against Greenville College in a Friday-night MCVL bout at the H.J. Long Gymnasium in Greenville, Illinois. The Red Men didn't skip a beat over their extended hiatus as they cruised to a 3-0 sweep over the Panthers.

The Red Men, who tallied 43 kills on the night, held Greenville to just 27. Evan Walsh had a lot to do with that as he notched a game-high 11 kills and 12 digs along with a trio of blocks. It was another day at the office for Matt Slivinski, who registered 10 kills, seven digs and three blocks. Parker Connolly paced Carthage at the net with four blocks, and in efficiency with a .545 hitting percentage that included seven kills on 11 attack attempts. Kyle Cohan was another integral piece defensively with 10 digs.

Matt Reinsel notched a 37-assist performance in the three-set win for Carthage. Kyle Ward paced Greenville's offense with seven kills along with a .263 mark.

The Red Men push their win streak to nine and improve to 16-1, 3-0 MCVL while Greenville drops to 7-11, 0-3 MCVL.

Red Men 3, Greenville 0

Fifteen of Carthage's kills occurred in the first set, where six different Red Men contributed at least one in a 25-17 decision over the Panthers. Carthage led from start-to-finish in set two, where they capitalized on 11 Greenville errors and four Matt Slivinski kills en route to a 25-20 victory.

The Panthers made things interesting in the third set as they jumped to a 4-0 cushion, and held onto that lead throughout the early stages of the frame. The Red Men, down 14-12, generated a 5-0 run en route to a 17-14 advantage which provoked a Greenville timeout. The breather didn't pay dividends as a pair of kills each from Slivinski and Arnold down the stretch cemented a 25-20 set-three victory and 3-0 match sweep for Carthage.

The Red Men will square-off against Fontbonne University tomorrow, Saturday, March 16 in St. Louis, Missouri at 1:00 p.m.
