#5 Red Men Clip Cardinals 3-0

NAPERVILLE, ILL.—Fresh off a six-match home stand, the #5 Carthage College men's volleyball team hit the road for the first time in 25 days on Wednesday when they invaded North Central College. The Red Men, who dropped a 3-1 decision at North Central last season, redeemed themselves with a 3-0 sweep over the Cardinals this time around.

Kai Cromwell posted a season-high 10 kills while reigning Import Sports/AVCA Division III Player of the Week Matt Slivinski and Parker Connolly each tallied nine kills. Slivinski, who recorded no attack errors and hit .563, notched a game-high 10 digs. Connolly was nearly flawless as he mustered a .800 hitting percentage on one attack error, and contributed four blocks on the other end. Matt Reinsel turned in a 38-assist performance along with seven digs and three blocks.

The Red Men up their record to 11-1, 0-0 MCVL while North Central drops to 10-7, 0-0 MCVL. Both teams will meet again on Friday, April 5 at Tarble Arena, where things will count toward MCVL standings.

The Cardinals committed 13 errors in set one, while five different Red Men chipped in kills in a 25-21 decision. The Red Men led from start-to-finish in set two, thanks to early and late-game runs. Carthage, who took a 5-1 lead in set two, were led by Cromwell's five kills in the frame. With the score 21-17 in favor of Carthage, kills from Connolly, Slivinski and Cromwell along with a North Central attack error made up the Red Men's 4-0 run to end things en route to a 25-17 win.

The Cardinals posted 13 kills in set three, where they led as large as 12-6 before the Red Men slowly closed the gap. Carthage responded with eight kills from five different players en route to a 16-16 tie. The score was tied on five more occasions before a Reinsel kill and North Central attack error broke a 23-23 tie and sealed a 25-23 win for Carthage.

The Red Men will host #3 Dominican University on Wednesday, February 27 at 7:00 p.m.
